SCOPE Program

What is SCOPE?

SCOPE (School Based Community Outreach Programme for Enrichment) is a community service oriented programme geared towards encouraging students to perform acts of service with the aim of increasing social awareness, building teamwork and developing values, skills and understandings needed to contribute to civic wellbeing. It will enable our students to address many of the core values of the institution that they have been exposed to, while attending our schools, in keeping with the institution’s motto of ‘Selflessly Serving Our Community.’

Requirements of SCOPE

Under SCOPE, students of Bishop Anstey High School East and Trinity College East are required to complete a minimum of fifty (50) hours Community Service to be eligible to graduate at the end of Form Five and it serves as a prerequisite for entry into BATCE 6th Form where students are required to attain a minimum of one hundred (100) hours over the two year period in order to graduate.

How can students earn SCOPE hours?

Community Service may be initiated by the school, parents, students or any combination of these. The service may be provided during or outside of school time, individually or collaboratively, through one or multiple activities or as part of the school curriculum or extra-curricular.

Community Service Hours can be earned through volunteer work at organizations such as – Schools, Homes (children homes/homes for the aged/homes for socially displaced persons etc.) Churches, Non-Profit Organizations, etc. Hours can also be earned by working as tutors, mentors, or any voluntary service extended to an individual/individuals. Hours can also be earned by giving of time to any recognized charity event or function. Students are encouraged to seek clarification from the Dean when in doubt as to what is considered as community service. The school will offer advice as to where student’s services can best be offered.

How students log their SCOPE hours?

The SCOPE Log Sheet is an official record of community service hours earned. The logs must be completed by someone affiliated with the organization/person/event that the student has assisted and CANNOT be a relative. All information must be filled out for SCOPE hours to be recognized. If the Log is lost, the earned hours will not be considered however extra Log Sheets can be obtained from the Vice Principal’s Office.
