Derek Carrington has as his academic qualifications a BSc. In Economics from the University of the West Indies and an M.A. in Regional Planning and Resource Development from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.  Interest and commitment to the environment led initially to employment as a Resource Economist at the Institute of Marine Affairs and eventually as a Lecturer in Marine Resource Economics at the School for Field Studies (an affiliate of Boston University) in the Turks and Caicos Islands. This programme in experiential education provided a unique, pragmatic and insightful approach to education. Returning to Trinidad in the late 1990s, a career change led to Massy Technologies InfoCom (in its previous incarnation as CCS Technology) where he has been for almost twenty years as Senior Account Manager with responsibility for ICT Sales and Relationship Management for the Financial Sector in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Suriname.
